This skin type seems to be coming more and more common. We suggest using the most natural organic skin care possible - as they are less likely to trigger the reaction that other products may have on sensitive skin. The other thing that's important is not to overload skin with lots of products. We suggest staying away from products that contain a lot of essential oils, especially on the face which can be highly sensitive. Try to keep your regime as simple as possible. All of our products are suitable for sensitive skin as they are mostly gorgeous organic plant oils and extracts. Or try using just organic Jojoba Oil which really is lovely for skin with its masses of nutrients and calming effect.
There’s no one reason for sensitive skin, however, it generally arises from ingesting something that causes an allergy, putting something harsh onto the skin, or from a skin irritation like itching. Some people are more prone to sensitive skin than others, but most of the people we speak to have sensitive skin on their faces more than anywhere else on their body, and often sensitivity gets worse as they get older. It is partly because the face is subject to so much. It’s rarely covered up which means it is at the mercy of the elements like wind, rain and sun.
We feel one of the reason's sensitive skin is becoming more common and affecting more people is because of the harsh ingredients in some beauty products. The skin on the face differs as water is lost more quickly than other parts of the body so is not such a good barrier. The cells are also smaller on the face, which affects sensitivity because we have little protection to what we put on our face. So you can imagine how harsh ingredients found in some conventional products can cause sensitivity, particularly when we think about the amount of products we use from make up and cleansers, to exfoliators, moisturisers and serums. At Skin Blossom we believe sensitive skin can be managed with these natural, affordable methods:
If you are allergic to something try to work out what the cause is. You could write a food and beauty diary noting what you ingest and the ingredients you place on your skin - this will allow you to find the cause when reactions occur.
Buy natural and organic skin care prodts because they work with skin instead of irritating it. It can be confusing as there are lots of brand out there. A Brand like Skin Blossom is certified by the Soil Association, who guarantee the organic integrity of our ingredients, and do not allow us to use ingredients which are harsh to skin or the environment. Stay well away from products that use Sodium Laureth and Lauryl Sulphate, parabens, artificial colour or fragrance, DEA, MEA or TEA, petrochemicals, PEGs and Propylene Glycol.
Have a simple beauty regime as we do not need lots of different products. Cleansing and moisturising are the essential steps. Try a cleanser like our milk which has Glycerin to purify and hydrate, and the Almond oil to loosens dirt and give skin nourishment. Our Nourishing Face Moisturiser is packed with Jojoba oil which is very calming, protecting and moisturising.
Go easy on exfoliation and it can be irritating to sensitive skin. We recomend not doing it more than once every week or two. You do not need to use harsh scrubs and can use a cleansing milk and muslin cloth - remove the milk with a luke warm cloth using small gentle circular movements. Your body will love dry brushing with a natural brush and long sweeps towards the heart.
Avoid irritating sn by making simple changes to your lifestyle - such as using a non-bio detergent and a kind body wash. Our Cleanse and Nourish Body Wash is kind with a delicate lather, and orange to comfort and soothe. If skin gets dry after bathing then moisturise with a gentle product like our Body Lotion which is packed with organic plant oils to soothe skin.
Most of us have dry hands as we put them through a lot. They often become sensitive from constant washing as it destroys the skins protective lipid layer. To reduce this always use gloves when washing up, and use a hand cream like ours which is packed with plant oils and Shea Butter to fight dryness and protect.
The scalp can also be sensitive, dry, itchy and irritated. Try a mild shampoo like ours as it has soothing Palmarosa and conditioning Rosemary, and our Conditioner contains masses of nutrients from the Pracaxi seed oil.
If skiis hyper sensitive to everything (including natural ingredients), try using just organic Jojoba Oil for cleansing and moisturising the face & body. Skin loves calming Jojoba Oil as it is similar to our sebum, and also hydrates and protects.
It is important to also feed skin from the inside by drinking lots of water and eating foods high nutrients such as fish, Avocado, nuts, fruit plus vegetables.
